Canadian Sea Terminal Doubles Capacity with Data Optimizer™ and Strategy Optimizer™
Nexus Global has been awarded a major contract in Canada with the region’s largest coal and potash shipping port. As part of a multi-phase project, Nexus Global was selected to support the development of Maintenance and Data Strategy Management Manuals and develop the complete equipment asset register and asset classifications for the new infrastructure project.
The Canadian company operates one of the largest multi-product bulk deep-sea terminals in North America and plays an integral role in Canada’s economy by moving exported goods to global markets in Asia, South America, and Europe. New infrastructure coming to the site includes a new ship loader, a new double rotary dumper for offloading by rail cars, one new stacker reclaimer, new rail tracks, and an overpass to the "inner circle" of the rail loop. Once the upgrade is complete, the terminal will be capable of exporting more than double the current capacity.
To ensure the multi-million dollar upgrade project is a success, the company enlisted Nexus Global to provide expertise in Operational Readiness. Two key elements of readiness are having the correct data build and the ability to operate and maintain the asset once it is turned over to Operations. As such, Nexus Global was contracted based on extensive expertise and knowledge in Asset Performance Management (APM) and a proven track record in the development of world-class asset hierarchy and data structure.
“Currently the organization has a very flat and incomplete data structure,” confirms Doug Robey, President of Nexus Global. “This leads to many unknowns of what equipment exists in the plant, as well as increased maintenance costs by having to expedite materials for repairs. Additionally, the current CMMS is lacking any historical data for decision making, because the asset structure is incomplete.”
Nexus Global will support the multi-phase project by using APM Optimizer™ software, with particular use of Data Optimizer to develop and validate the data build and Strategy Optimizer to develop the maintenance strategies.
“Through our partnerships, we can provide a seamless solution that delivers operational readiness and excellence,” adds Robey. “By utilizing our APM Optimizer software, the client will be able to conduct metadata searches, make decisions using accurate data, develop a materials stocking strategy, and implement detailed maintenance strategies. In turn, the client can expect transparency, reduced long-term labor, materials, and expediting costs, as well as improved quality planned maintenance.”
