In the highly competitive beverage industry, breweries and bottling companies rely on efficient equipment performance to meet production goals. One major company recognized that outdated maintenance practices were holding them back. Many of their preventive maintenance (PM) activities had been in place for years, based only on original equipment manufacturer recommendations. As a result, preventable failures occurred, maintenance resources were misdirected, and tasks were performed too frequently without adding real value. To address these challenges, the company partnered with Nexus Global to conduct a full maintenance strategy review of its bottling line. The goal was to shift from outdated, reactive practices to a structured, optimized strategy that would increase throughput, lower downtime, and ensure maintenance resources were applied where they would deliver the most impact.
The process began with documenting the existing maintenance program and reviewing all activities against industry standards for maintenance task selection. Through workshops and failure mode evaluations, the team identified gaps, duplication, and inefficiencies. Non-value-adding tasks were removed, task intervals were re-evaluated, and new preventive actions were introduced to address failures that had previously gone unmanaged.
Beyond the technical review, the initiative also strengthened alignment between maintenance and operations. With a clearer understanding of equipment needs and a streamlined strategy in place, the organization built a foundation for ongoing maintenance and reliability improvements across the business.
